Georgina studied undergraduate music at Edinburgh University under Peter Nelson and Nigel Osborne (OBE), focusing on contemporary music study and techniques. On the strength of her final electroacoustic compositions and her compositional work as music director of the university theatre company Georgina secured a scholarship to The Banff Centre in Canada to study composition and a bursary fund to study MA in Electro-acoustic music and Aesthetics at Birmingham University under Jonty Harrison. In early 2000’s Georgina worked on a series of binaurally recorded fieldwave CD releases of the environment of eco-festivals and since 2003 she has explored the territories of the voice and delay pedals making collages of vocal sound, usually non-verbal.

In 2012 Georgina began Tuesdays Post : Live Progressive Ambient in order to create a platform for artists who explore acoustic instruments and electronics. Focussing on music both eccentric/eclectic/electro-acoustic and also with a sense of aesthetic beauty. She started a residency at Iklectik last year, specialising in live progressive ambient music and ambisonics.  Georgina recently completed a weeklong intensive workshop with 4DSOUND immersive sound rig, where she prepared a piece for their custom made software hardware system.

She continues to innovate and develop her live vocal collages including transferring her outboard live techniques to computer based programs and 3D Ambisonic spatialisations. Since September 2022 Georgina has composed 7 ambisonic pieces that have been played on Ambisonic sound systems in London in the last year. In June 2023 The University of Gloucester asked Georgina to present a talk on Spatial music and also played her piece “FocuSing” on their ambisonic sound system during their weekend ‘Immersive Audio’ conference. Happenstance interview Georgina (with short live clip)

Peter Kirn of Create Digital Music website wrote this about Georgina Brett’s work:

“London’s Georgina Brett is part of a generation of solo artists who use layered loops to build transcendental, rotating textures from repetition. Hardware loopers and effects pedals remain the preferred tool here for Brett as for many such artists. But Brett’s work is worth a particular mention for its ghostly, ethereal quality and thoughtful, delicate compositions.

There is for me a continuum connecting to the Minimalists, of course – as a soloist, she’s doing some of the things that the Meredith Monk Ensemble did (minus the loopers), and there’s a feeling of the “discovered folk music” that Monk used in her work. Other moments have the quasi-Medieval sounds of Philip Glass — one track recalling the “Knee Plays,” other moments perhaps channeling Hildegard, in flourishes of modal monophony that underlie the writing. But this voice seems personal and intimate, centering on folk song round-style directness.

Watching her build up a track, even after many years of watching looping performances, is a pleasure, beginning fragile or even uncertain like an echo, but gently growing to a calmly rolling sea of sound.”

  • Buddhafield festival 2011In 2011 Georgina founded “Tuesdays Post : Live Progressive Ambient“, an event organiser based in London hosting live acts. We have hosted over 80 acts since 2012 and have produced a large body of footage of our events, available to view on Youtube. Now in season 4 we are hosting ambisonic (surround-sound) concerts at Iklectik, the most exciting venues in London for spatial music. We host live performers with electronics, who cross the boundaries of: ambient, university research music (electro-acoustic music), minimalism and improvisation. Often our artists are using hardware and software loopers.“A little minimal, a little magical, a little chaotic and little bizarre. Live on stage. The craft of harmony and rhythm taken off the beaten track.. Risky live electronic music. Boxes, wires, instruments, pedals, and laptops … a platform for new sounds, collaborations and innovation”

Georgina is classically trained with a BMus and an MA in Aesthetics and Composition.
